4 Days to Go

This is the final week before deployment.  Looking back, I can't believe how fast those last 3 months have been.  And now, here we are, 4 days before takeoff!

Being the compulsive planner that I am, I am all packed and ready to go a week in advanced.  I made lists for what the buy, what is left to do, and when those items on my list are supposed to get done.  I stress less when I have a plan.  So yesterday was packing day, and oh man do I hate packing! I always want to take everything, for all the "just in case".  So following my "just in case" rule, I ended up taking 10 pairs of pants and 11 pairs of shoes! I might end up never having to do laundry :) All my shoes are justified: High heels closed shoes, high heels sandals, small heels closed shoes, small heel sandals and flats for work.  And then sandals for walking around.  And if it's chilly, converse for walking around.  But what if I want to work out, so sneakers had to go in too.  And what if we want to go to a somewhat fancy restaurant at night where I can't wear my red converse but don't want to wear heels because we're walking... See, all justified!  And my 2 suitcases are 3/4 full so I have room for all the shoes I am going to buy over there.

Tomorrow, we are meeting with our customer for the second time.  Not everybody was able to dial in for the first meeting so we decided to have another one before we left.  Because the team is so spread out, finding a time slot that works for everybody has been a big challenge.  The meeting is scheduled for 11am Brazil time.  That is 10am in NY, 4pm in Austria, 10pm in Malaysia and 1am in New Zealand! In 5 days, we will all be in the same time zone and won't need to worry about that anymore.

Also, today, we got an email from Bruno, who is our IBM rep in Brazil.  Apparently, we are in the papers!

Since my Portuguese is still limited to "where's the bathroom", "how much?", "Let's go to the restaurant", and "I want wine but you're going to pay for it" (all very useful stuff), I didn't really get the article :)  I was able to recognize words like IBM, CSC, 13 de Augusto, consultores e especialistas, and Rede Cidada :).  I asked google to translate the title and subtitle and here it is:

"Global expertise to improve local management" and "The technology giant IBM innovations in corporate citizenship program and donates, through its experience and action of employees, services for institutions, organizations and government social"

Pretty sweet, isn't it? If only I understood what they were talking about.  Hopefully, by the end of this trip, I would be able to come back to this article and understand what was told about us.

  3. Thanks for adding the article, Nada. I enjoyed reading it - especially the bit below the picture about our experience in 2010.
